and The Fox is the Pub they dream of, it's perfect in every particular... and the lunch was a perfect Pub Lunch. |

One of my favourite Pubs, The Fox at Lower Oddington near Stow on the Wold is embracing more modern cuisine. The carefully restored, simply furnished rooms have fresh flowers, flagstones, and an open fire. The Fox is earning plaudits for its adventurous cooking under young Australian Chef Ray Pearce.

Good Cheer: with its attention to detail The Fox Inn is a cut above the ordinary Country Pub. Their interest in wine shows in the Fox's simple well chosen wine list featuring few bottles priced at more than £20. For beer lovers there's a range of real ales on tap...

True, it is an Inn with a difference, where excellent food and wines are available midday and each evening... But it still remains a 'local' to villagers. The Fox is still a Cotswold Inn with an abundance of oak beams and flagstone floors but now there are vases of real flowers and the whole place gleams with a pristine appearance of a well kept home.

The Fox Inn is everything a country Pub should be, and just what you would expect in this chocolate box territory. It is all reassuringly homemade with dishes that are recognisable, comfortable, and dependable. If this was your upmarket local, you'd be a regular.

...this applies to the Fox Inn in Lower Oddington, because it is more than just a pub, and the area sums up the best of the English Countryside. The Virginia Creeper clad 16th century Inn offers three rooms on a bed and breakfast basis. Each is distinct, bright, and airy, furnished with antiques, and has all the facilities needed for a weekend away.

The room was light and spacious with the extremely comfortable Louis XV bed taking centre stage. The decor was straight out of 'Country Life'. The food was super and the restaurant busy, with the menu offering a wide selection for carnivores, fish fans, and vegetarians. There was a broad selection of both new and old world wines all at memorable prices. A night under this roof should do much to restore your energy levels and send you back to city life relaxed and pampered.

"Even the best and most organic of London's gastropubs can't compete with places like The Fox in nearby Oddington. In fact, pubs like these aren't pubs at all, but five-star restaurants wearing pub camouflage."
